DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

This project is a one-bedroom apartment renovation focused on opening up the living, dining, and kitchen areas while refining the material palette throughout. The scope included a new open kitchen, updated storage, new finishes, lighting, and a renovated bathroom with marble mosaic tile and carefully coordinated millwork and detailing.

STRATEGY

The design strategy centered on transforming the apartment from a closed kitchen layout into a more open and connected living space. By relocating the stove to the end wall and reworking the kitchen into a cleaner galley configuration, the main living area became brighter, more spacious, and better suited for daily use and entertaining. Near the entry, several smaller closets were consolidated into a more functional closet zone, creating clearer circulation and more useful storage by the door.

COORDINATION

Throughout the project, we worked closely with the contractor to develop and refine details during construction. This included coordinating millwork dimensions, appliance clearances, countertop transitions, lighting locations, tile terminations, and finish alignments so that the design intent could be translated clearly into built work. Many details were reviewed directly with the contractor to ensure they were practical, buildable, and consistent with the overall design.

EXECUTION

We worked closely with the GC on the execution of finish materials, especially the bathroom marble mosaic tile. We reviewed the tile layout on site, discussed alignment and transitions, and helped identify pieces that were too dark or visually distracting so they could be set aside before installation.
